Clouds this morning

Strange and unsettled weather.  50 degrees at 6:00 AM.

I am quite sure these are what are called Mammatus Clouds.

All in all, quite interesting.

Oh Boy. Oh Boy!!

We are a month past winter solstice and the days are getting longer.  Signs of Spring are starting to appear.

Even the cats are coming outdoors.
Other good news....
"Benign Holter Monitor with rare PVCs and PACs and no complex ventricular ectopy noted.  He did have one 6-beat run of SVT at 21:00.  He tends to bradycardic during sleeping hours with a low of 39 bpm at 02:08:10."

Onward.

Wednesday's Walk with the MCLandLopers

A very pleasant walk out a haul road along Caspar Creek this time.

The mushrooms were gone but the spiders were out!

We walked one hour out and one hour back.  A total of 5.5 miles.

A different kind of spider.

There were seven of us this time.  The timer on my camera is only good for up to 30 seconds so I was not able to join the group posing on a Caspar Creek bridge!

Peaceful Pool

This morning, after my eight laps ( EIGHT LAPS!!  Four Hundred yards!! Count them!!!  Yeah!!) I walked from the lap pool over to the other pool and checked it out.  This is where the kids play I'm told and also where water exercise and water therapy classes take place.  I'm an early morning guy and all is quiet at this end when I'm here.  It's not always that way!!

This is looking out the windows west down Maple Street straight towards Soldier's Bay.
Note the daylight at 7:15 AM!!  The days are getting longer.  :-)

You may remember this photo I took during the coast walk on the mill site property.  This is from Soldier's Bay looking up Maple Street at the pool!!  Those windows you see across the bottom of the pool, by the white car, are the windows in the previous photo!

I joined this pool in the middle of December.  I started swimming two laps each day that first week and progressed to three the next week.  Four the next and so on up to eight this week.  I'm feeling really good about getting back into swimming.
As for my PVC.s and that Holter Monitor business, I have yet to learn the results, maybe today.  I have not had any more "events".  Knock wood.

700

Well peeps, my seven hundredth blog!!  This is my first one posted October 6th, 2006.
I've come a long way baby but I'm still here.  There have been times I thought I had done everything there is to do in Fort Bragg; nothing left to walk and gawk but the other evening I was walking home from the crab feed and saw a whole different version of Fort Bragg that I never see during my wee morning meanders.  I realize I have hardly scratched the surface of this town.  There is so much more to learn and see.
Also, because of blogging, I have met a great bunch of folks in the blogging world who I have never met!  They are over there in the side bar.  They help keep me going, inspire me and a special thanks to "Anonymous".  You know who you are and thanks for all the comments! :-)

I recently discovered a site called Blog2Print.  They will convert my blog into a book.  I decided to give it a try.  I had my blogs from October 6th to December 31st, 2006 put into book form.  Above and below are the results.  I'm impressed.  They do a nice job.  The down side is they are very expensive.  It will cost me over $350.00 to print out the seven books it will take to cover 700 blogs!

Nuts yeah, but I'm going to do it.
I'm a Blogger!!

A good time!

I had a good time being a volunteer at the crab feed.  (This is a posed photo.)
They let me server, not cook!!

A pretty awesome scene in the kitchen!

Many hands made short work of a huge project.

It is a big kitchen in Portuguese Hall where this event took place.

This was the first "seating". Two more followed which were sold out!!
Fortunately Tawny organized a complete set of severs for each seating so we, the first group,  got to have our reward, a "volunteer dinner", after our shift was complete.
Mmm Mmm. Good!
All to benefit the Mendocino Coast Clinic.  Well done one and all!

Grandpa's Wings

My father was a glider pilot during the second world war.

My son is building an airplane in his garage.  He has been working on it for three years.
It is a Van's RV-7/A

He has the control panel almost finished and included Grandpa's wings!!
Click to enlarge.  (The "G" for glider!)

Guess what!  My grandson!!

Catching up

Our lament about lack of rain has come to an end.  The way it has been going this past week we will be back to our "normal" rain totals post haste.
I am always amazed at how slow the seasons change here.  The dry season goes on and on and I forget all about what it was like sitting in the dark during power outages and raging storms.  Yet, every year, this cycle comes round.  The MCLandLopers outing was cancelled, due to rain and wind.  This morning I got soaked walking home from the pool!!

But hey, there is a lot going on....

Feel the Power

Here's the current weather radar image.  We are in for more storms through Thursday.

Meanwhile.

Between showers I did a quick walk to The Fort Bragg Bakery and bought a fresh loaf of Whole Wheat and had Chris to pass it through the slicer for me.  Mmmm.

In our back yard I have fresh lettuce ready to be picked and added to my noon time tomato and whole wheat sandwich.
What a great day to stay home and surf the net as long as the power hangs in.

Today's (click here--> APOD was quite interesting.

Bumfuzzle and their new baby is well worth a read.

This blog about their new baby and snowfall is amazing.

And TED!  Learn how all things are "Moleeds".
Pretty funny.

I'm having a fun time, hang in there PG&E. :-)

Power outage

I woke to a dark and silent Fort Bragg.  Here's looking south on Franklin Street from the Laurel Street intersection.  A few cars off in the distance.

Looking west on Laurel towards Main Street.

Traffic lights and vehicle lights on Main Street looking south from the Laurel cross street.

Franklin Street store fronts being progressively lit by a passing car during a 10 second exposure..

Noon and even the traffic lights are out.  Very high surf.

I returned to the hospital to have the Holter Monitor removed after wearing it 24 hours.

The Holter Monitor is used for checking heart issues.

No, wait.  Wrong photo.

There, that's more like it!  A newer style monitor on an older style body!!  (I can explain about my little boobies.  They ain't from smoking dope.  I got them from taking estrogen while fighting off prostate cancer several years ago.)
By the way, the power returned at 2:00 PM in my section of Fort Bragg.  More storms are on the way.
I'll find out what the monitor recorded in a few days.

It finally raining!

It was a wet walk to the pool this morning!!
I'm not complaining, we really need the rain.

Here's the radar image this morning.  Hopefully we will catch up to our normal average.
