A walk in the park, er, Cemetery!

My Walking and Gawking friend "Short Legs" was over from Chico for a visit with her 100 year old mom and while here called and suggested a walk to the Ocean View Cemetery on the north side of Pudding Creek.

I have driven past this cemetery many times but had never stopped in for a visit.  Short Legs grew up in Fort Bragg and knows many of the names.

I was mostly interested in the "Oddities" like the wording on this one, "Founded Oct. 1920"?

And this one "Buried on top of Great-Grandmother...."

Some grave sites were quite modest and...

some quite elaborate.

Several of the more elaborate ones had photos attached.

The biggest change to the Ocean View Cemetery is this recently installed fence along the west side which blocks the ocean view for the grave site visitors but probably more importantly, in this day and age, keeps the ocean side motel guests from having to look at the cemetery!

  1. this reminds me of an abandoned cemetary near my house. it's about a half a mile walk, and it's extremely eerie but so interesting. some tomb stones are just carved rocks. i believe it was used in the 1910s to 1940s.

    love the blog! (:

  2. Hey! You didn't get a permission slip for that shot! Loved the walk - thank you. SL

  3. It's a little sad that the fence was built. I think my favorite cemetery is down at Cuffey's Cove.
