A Break in the Rain

Cool and clear this morning. I'm walking along and what to my wandering eyes did appear? Two planets, Venus and Jupiter and our waning moon!! I had read about these planets two days ago on one of my favorite websites Astronomy Photo of the Day and now, by golly, there they are!!

I took this photo from the upper deck of the motel on Franklin Street between Cypress Street and South Street. I needed the height plus their handrail served as a tripod. Thanks!

One way to know if the moon is rising or waning is by noticing which side is lit. If it is lit on the left, like this one, it is "Leaving". If it is lit on the right side it is "Rising".

Left- Leaving. Right- Rising.

  2. Thanks. I always get confused about left vs. right. That's 'cause I've always used waxing and waning (which doesn't help a bit) vs. your leaving vs. rising. Love it!
