He's Back!!

It's the Geocacher known as "Roadcow"!!

Ed's and Suzanne's visit last Sunday rekindled the spark!  It is all their fault!

Back in the dark ages of 2001 Ed introduced me to a new game called Geocaching.  We entered the zip code for Fort Bragg into the Geocaching.com webpage and discovered there was a geocache hidden somewhere by the Pudding Creek Trestle.  We hopped into their car and set off to find it.  Soon Ed and I were wandering around in the sand looking at our GPS receivers and getting flumoxed when Suzanne said, "Is this it?".

Humble beginnings, friends, humble beginnings but it was a start.  In the ensuing years I sort of lost interest after finding 236 of them but Ed became hooked and has recently found his 3,500th cache!!

Anyway, like I said, Ed and Suzanne rekindled the flame and so this morning I went for a walk in search of one.

And, Bingo!  Here it is!

Well, it wasn't right here :-) but close by!

The Old School.

What a difference a day makes. 24 little hours!

Sunday my friends Ed and Suzanne arrived.  They brought Fish and Chips from Ivar's for lunch and then Suzanne stayed with my Mother in Law while Ed and I went for a walk.  Ed is into Geocaching, big time, so of course we went looking for a cache near Midpine School.  In this photo Ed is convinced the cache is off to his right while I can see by his gps it is clearly off to my left.  We never did find it!

But this leaf caught my eye.

And what's this?  Signs of Spring?

 Ed showed me his old neighborhood from during his formative years, for instance this bridge he used to bicycle across on the way to his grandmother's house.  All together we had a nice five and a half mile walk.   Thanks Ed and Suzanne!

And then I wake up this morning!!!

Unbelievable!  Nobody told me it was going to snow!

But it isn't really snow.  It is lumpy and crunchy!

I think up some new catagories;  "Snhail" or "Snice".

What ever it is it tells a story.

Recycle and trash containers recently put out....

Someone left for work after clearing their windows.

Looking back I see I walk like a Duck!

Edmonds

I took an early morning walk down to Edmonds again.  This time it was a little lighter out and I noticed more stuff!

Like, Edmonds was founded 119 years ago.

Like, Curves exercise emporium for women shares the same parking lot as the Baskin and Robins Ice Cream Parlor.  Convenient!

Like, the dog watering dish outside this store is for dogs that can read!

Like, the new construction in the foreground is about as old as the new construction in the background!

Like, an original one screen theater!!

Like, enough news already!

Like, if you are pissed off at your boyfriend just toss all his clothes into a tree.

(My best guess!)

Like, get in line for the ferry to Kingston.

Like, which way home?

Like, Wow, six and a half miles in two and a half hours!

More Observations and Musings

I revisited the Richmond Beach Post Office yesterday.  This time I noticed the P.O. Boxes!  I don't know how I missed them the first time.

These are the really old kind that have the combination lock!  The P.O. Box I had in Greenwood/Elk California looked like these with the window and ornate casting but used a key.

The Post Mistress told me these boxes are from the original Redmond Post office and showed me this photo on the wall which was taken in 1907. (It is the building on the right.)

Stepping out of the post office into what we call more modern times I spotted this.  :-)

During this morning's walk I got to enjoy light drizzle for the first time in quite a while.  It has been unseasonably dry.  This is a Seattle Transit bus zooming by.

And I got intrigued with the lighting of the red stop lights reflecting on this house.

And happened to time it just as the occupants started their Friday morning!

Bio Diesel.  What a concept.

Odds and ends

Ya can't have enough warning signs.  Just to the left of the oncoming car is evidence of where a car went off the curve and took out a fire hydrant!!  The hydrant has been replaced but the tracks are still there!

I'm feeding the birds in the area.  We have several Chickadees hanging around as well as Dark eyed Juncos, house sparrows and crows.  House Finches have built a nest on the sunshade of the living room window the past two years and have raised double clutches of babies.  We are hoping they will show up and try again this year.

Last evening's sunset just wouldn't quit.  I must have taken ten photos as it got better and better.  Alarming in a way though.  What is causing all that pollution?

I spotted this interesting play on words during this morning's walk.

Who'ed a Thunk it.

I needed some postage stamps.  I was told there was a Post Office near the Richmond Beach Re-hab center so, while my mother-in-law worked out on the machines, I went looking for it.  I ended up asking four different people and walked past it three times!

 

I finally found it.  (Note the short person waiting at the counter.)  The reason I had so much trouble is because....

it is located inside a bowling alley!!  Yes, not only can you buy stamps and post letters but you can also rent shoes and balls!
