Pudding Creek Trestle to open Friday Nov. 16

California State Parks announced Tuesday that the Pudding Creek Trestle reconstruction project is finished and the bridge will be open this Friday, Nov. 16, just in time for the holiday season.

At 4 p.m. on Friday, it will be possible to walk from Fort Bragg along the historic Georgia Pacific timber hauling road all the way to Ten Mile River. The bridge will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists who no longer will have to share Highway 1 with cars and trucks just to get to the coast and MacKerricher State Park north of town.

In turn, residents and visitors north of Fort Bragg will now have a pleasant alternative to driving into town. Fort Bragg's history, shopping, services and restaurants will be just a pleasant walk or bicycle excursion away.

Come celebrate.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation would like to invite the public to the opening. We hope to have on hand the many people and organizations that made it possible for the community to reconnect with a piece of local history.

We'll meet at the Fort Bragg (south) end of the trestle and walk across the trestle. Please join us on the first walk across the trestle!

I don't think many of these type phone booths are left in our cell phone world. This one even has a working light!

This is an interesting message "happenstance". For years I have driven "thru" the "USA" on vacations and visits and Sunday afternoon joy rides but,

the days of flitting hither and yon without a care seems to be coming to an end. So, I drive less and I walk a lot more and,

guess what! $3.41.9 looks high but my bathroom scale has reached a new low! Woo Hoo!

Yeah But

Fort Bragg may not be a "seaside" town like I mentioned in this blog but we do have a harbor!

Noyo Harbor. I find it surprising that Wikipedia has very little to say about it.

Walk Anyway

It's one of those morning where "bed gravity" is very strong but I had a reason go get up and go. I needed a loaf of bread! And, like always, I am glad I took a stroll in the drizzle because I always discover interesting stuff. Like this street reflection.

And I noticed the globe missing from one of the new street lights on the southwest corner of Franklin and Alder Street. It looks like the globe also broke the lamp when it got blown over or knocked out but the electricity is still trying to light it up.

And, of course, another shopping cart composition.

And, I couldn't pass up this mirror "opportunity" leaning against a gate on Oak Street.

Peeking Through the Fence

Fort Bragg is the strangest "Seaside" town. As you can see in this map our whole waterfront is off limits behind a fence that is over two miles long.

" No trespassing" "Private property"

The lumber mill closed in the 1990's. Currently there is toxic clean-up in progress. I'm told it is going to take two or three more years before that process is over. Meanwhile, "No Trespassing".

So I walked the edge and take photos through the fence.

Most of what I see I know nothing about but in this photo are some of the kiln drying sheds. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is one of the guard shacks where the workers entered the property. Redwood lumber was king for over one hundred years but on these 400 acre's, it is all over now.

Saturday Morning Drizzle

It was clear as a bell last evening but I woke to a surprise this morning. But the damp didn't dampen my desire to walk. The clean fresh air. The peace and quiet. Nice.

I see the siding is going up on the MendoLake Credit Union and this bike seems to live by this post.

"Not tonight dear, didn't you read the sign?"

Ah! another shopping cart for my photography collection.

This afternoon there is going to be a photography expedition lead by photographers from The Mendocino Coast Photographer Guild and Gallery. I think we are going to explore the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.

Do photographers get rained out? I think not!

Hi Mom!

Remember the "web cam" I mentioned in the previous blog? I happened to notice the gate was open at the job site this morning so I called my brother in Coupeville, Washington and asked him to "log onto" the MendoLake webpage and do a "print screen" of me and then e-mail it to me!

Bingo!!

That's me "multi-tasking"; talking to my brother on the cellphone and waving at the same time! By the way, I notice they have not corrected their video camera for standard time. This photo was taken at 6:33 and twenty seconds!!

Progress is progressing on the alley re-do between Main and Franklin, Alder and Redwood.

This is the machine that "eats" the old asphalt. Notice how the "tracts" are adjustable for different heights. Quite a remarkable machine.

I noticed the new street signs are in place along Franklin Street. I like them!

Today's Astronomy Photo of the Day informs me the planet, in the moon photo I took on the 5th of November, was Venus, not Saturn.
