Looking for #10

A friend of mine told me he thought there was a city limit sign further out the A&W Haul Road, further than I had previously walked. He thought it was by the bridge where the haul road crosses the Noyo River. My friend ShortLegs was visiting from Chico and so we set off this morning to investigate.

This is the view up river from the center of the bridge. A beautiful morning but no city limit sign to be seen.

Returning to town via the Haul Road we noticed the Pampas Grass is really getting out of hand along the river and haul road.

All in all, no city limit sign but another abandoned shopping cart.

One Strange Morning

I found this "wrapped" car on Laurel Street. Wedding party?

Then became intrigued with the lighting cast by the sodium vapor lights in the alley between Main and Franklin.

I discovered where you can take your dog for a little "Private Barking".

And another shopping cart.

Finally, I happened upon this guy who at first I thought was talking to me. It soon became apparent he was talking to himself. I continued on and he followed me. And followed me. I stopped and took his photo and then continued walking. After a mile I ducked into an alley and lost him. I'm sorry he is homeless but I really don't need a pet.

Water Tower Challenge

Dot over at Strolling through Georgia put out the challenge, "Check and see if your state has any unusual water towers. I challenge you to go get a picture of a water tower...Go Everyone!!"

Well, I don't know about our state but here's one of the tanks for our city water supply.

Speaking of tanks. I grew up with this one when I lived in North Bend, Nebraska.

When we visited several years ago they were talking about taking it down because their current water system uses a tank like the ones we have in Fort Bragg.

Wind Damage and Orange Trees

This is an example of what the prevailing north wind can do. These trees were planted along the south side of the Holme's Lumber Company fence. A nice protected and usually sunny spot but when they grew higher than the fence the north wind took over!

Our Franklin Street "Orange Trees" have a different kind of problem!! People keep messing with them.

Magnificent Monday Morning

I decided to walk out the Ten Mile Haul Road again. I wanted to increase my mileage and it is seven miles round trip if I go as far as the wooden bridge at Mackerricker.

Daylight is starting to return to my early morning walks and this, what I call, "Tule Fog" was interesting to observe.

Last year I walked 6.6 miles on my birthday. This year I decided that rather than upping it to 6.7 for a wimpy tenth of a mile increase instead I will try to do 67 miles the week of my birthday!! I figure ten miles a day for the six days preceeding my birthday and seven on my actual birthday. My birthday isn't until April but I figure I better start pushing the envelope if I am going to be able to pull it off.

Don't tell anyone. It can sometimes be awful when we announce a commitment to the blogging world, look at poor old Green as a Thistle! She can't wait until her "commiment" is over.

By the way, the spell checker on google blogger isn't working so you are reading the real me, warts and all!

Okay, Okay! Number Nine!!

Blog reader Valerie sent me a comment saying there was one more city limit sign and that I would find it on North Harbor Drive. By golly, she is right! Here it is!

I think that is the last of them. I did walk out the A&W haul road but didn't see one. Maybe I didn't go far enough.
