Nice. Not Nice.

One of my faithful readers (my sister) sent me this Photoshopped photo she did from one of my photos of the Pudding Creek Trestle. Nice! Thanks Sis! It would make a great logo.

This morning I noticed this weather vane. I don't know why I never noticed it before! Anyway, I have added this to my Fort Bragg weather vane photo collection. Nice!

In the not nice department, I photographed this fence October 27th thinking it is one of the nicest looking fences I have seen in Fort Bragg.
Here it is this morning. I don't know why some people feel the urge to be destructive but I hope they grow up. I did.

Views from The Trestle

Early this morning I walked to the newly opened Pudding Creek Trestle. Using my GPSr I discovered it is exactly 1.25 miles from my house to the center of the trestle if I follow the sidewalks. It is 1.1 miles if I cut corners!! This photo is looking down and east from the middle of the trestle!

Here is the view looking west from the center of the trestle out the mouth of Pudding Creek. This was the first time I have been able to take photos from this location. I am sure millions of photos will be taken from the center of this trestle in the years to come by both birders and scenery buffs alike. It is really quite spectacular!

Looking south..., obviously other early morning bikers, hikers and dogs had crossed over before me; their tracks in the morning dew.

While on the trestle I met a woman walking her dog who told me when she was a young girl her father worked at the mill. She remembers when it was possible to drive across the trestle in a car but it was really quite scary because there were no guard rails and only a few planks for the tires to ride on. "I could lean out the window and see Pudding Creek straight down between the ties"!

On Sunday they would sometimes go for a drive out the haul road. She remembers her dad driving across the trestle while pointing out things in the distance, her mom hollering, "Watch where you're going"!!

Today's the day!

Trestle photo from the Ten Mile Coastal Trail Foundation

From the Fort Bragg Advocate:

Pudding Creek Trestle to open Friday Nov. 16
By Marilyn Murphy, Superintendent, Dept. of Parks and Recreation -

California State Parks announced Tuesday that the Pudding Creek Trestle reconstruction project is finished and the bridge will be open this Friday, Nov. 16, just in time for the holiday season.

At 4 p.m. on Friday, it will be possible to walk from Fort Bragg along the historic Georgia Pacific timber hauling road all the way to Ten Mile River. The bridge will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists who no longer will have to share Highway 1 with cars and trucks just to get to the coast and MacKerricher State Park north of town.

In turn, residents and visitors north of Fort Bragg will now have a pleasant alternative to driving into town. Fort Bragg's history, shopping, services and restaurants will be just a pleasant walk or bicycle excursion away.

Come celebrate.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation would like to invite the public to the opening. We hope to have on hand the many people and organizations that made it possible for the community to reconnect with a piece of local history.

We'll meet at the Fort Bragg (south) end of the trestle and walk across the trestle. Please join us on the first walk across the trestle!

Stay tuned!! Photos tomorrow!

Who ya gonna call?

Southwest corner of Maple and Franklin
I don't think many of these type phone booths are left in our cell phone world. This one even has a working light!

This is an interesting message "happenstance". For years I have driven "thru" the "USA" on vacations and visits and Sunday afternoon joy rides but,

the days of flitting hither and yon without a care seems to be coming to an end. So, I drive less and I walk a lot more and,

guess what! $3.41.9 looks high but my bathroom scale has reached a new low! Woo Hoo!

Yeah But

Fort Bragg may not be a "seaside" town like I mentioned in this blog but we do have a harbor!

Noyo Harbor. I find it surprising that Wikipedia has very little to say about it.

Walk Anyway

It's one of those morning where "bed gravity" is very strong but I had a reason go get up and go. I needed a loaf of bread! And, like always, I am glad I took a stroll in the drizzle because I always discover interesting stuff. Like this street reflection.

And I noticed the globe missing from one of the new street lights on the southwest corner of Franklin and Alder Street. It looks like the globe also broke the lamp when it got blown over or knocked out but the electricity is still trying to light it up.

And, of course, another shopping cart composition.

And, I couldn't pass up this mirror "opportunity" leaning against a gate on Oak Street.

For more rainy day entertainment? might I recommend this interesting Seattle Artist Website called, "Running the Numbers: http://tinyurl.com/ywsqn6
